A community at work
Grass Roots is a global company, with offices in ten countries, and our annual turnover runs into hundreds of millions (growing each year). Yet we know that little things can make a big difference, too.
Grass Roots is much more than just a workplace. Our strong sense of family means that we're happy to support each other's passions and interests, and to work together to put something back into the wider community. For example, employees can take 'volunteer days' to work for local causes (which inevitably tend to involve paint, mud and perhaps a beer or two afterwards).
"After working for 5 different companies in 10 years, I came to Grass Roots and found like-minded colleagues who inspire me daily, work as a team and have a 'can do' attitude. It's a family I still belong to today - more than 20 years later."
Gary Wiggins, Creative Studio
Corporate sponsorship includes work with local schools, sports clubs and The Court Theatre in Tring (part of our building at our group head office). Other initiatives include our much-praised Apprentice Scheme in the UK, which actually gives successful participants a guaranteed job at the end of their two-year programme.
Grass Roots employees ('Rooters') are a proactive bunch, so there's usually some kind of charity fund-raising activity being initiated by a team or individual somewhere in the business. This says a lot about the kind of people we're lucky enough to employ - each of them bringing a relevant talent to the business, and we make it a priority to support them and help them grow further from day one.
Every Friday is a chance to wear jeans at Grass Roots - as long as we give £1 for the privilege! Every year we're able to give thousands of pounds to local good causes, all of which are chosen by employees.

"My work here at Grass Roots is intrinsically rewarding because I help to create innovative solutions that make a positive impact on people's lives. I am proud of the results we have achieved."
"I honestly look forward to coming into the head office, a converted stable yard, with bags of character. Grass Roots has grown significantly since I joined in 1995, but it is still friendly and people across every division actually talk to each other, from the Warehouse and Operations Centre to Creative and the IT crowd. Where else would the COO say hello every morning, and even make you tea?"
