Benefits of our Apprenticeship Programme
One of the many things that we love about our business is the 'special culture' that we've developed together. The culture 'thing' is quite hard to articulate, but it revolves around the people we employ, the way we fit together and how we behave towards each other on a daily basis. It shines through in what our customers have to say about us and it is at the heart of the reputation we've earned for being a great company to work for.
We believe in doing good work and having fun. We deliver on this simple philosophy every day, and as a result we have been very successful as a company.
As a Grass Roots apprentice, you'll learn practical business skills and gain valuable experience. We may also offer the opportunity to study part-time towards a qualification relevant to your area of work within the business.
As part of the Apprentice programme, Grass Roots will pay for all course fees in line with our sponsorship policy.
'Growing You' is the framework under which all learning and development within Grass Roots takes place. We're keen to build the capability of our people and ensure that new starters receive support from day one.
On your first day, your manager will explain the induction process so that you can learn about our processes, products and services and get up and running as soon as possible. The training you undertake will be delivered in different formats - some will be face to face, some online and some on a one-to-one basis with your manager or colleagues. The subjects covered will include:
- Meeting key people within the Group
- Health and Safety
- Growing You – our appraisal process and supporting material
- On the job training with regard to skills and knowledge to enable you to be successful
Once your induction is complete, then the process of your development continues but it is personalised to your particular needs.
Our HR Business Partner and Learning & Development Advisor are always on hand to give advice and guidance too.
Upon joining the Grass Roots Apprenticeship programme we are offering a competitive salary along with the following benefits:
- Pension – Grass Roots will match any contributions you make up to 5% of basic salary
- Group Income Protection - in the event of illness or an accident, Group Income Protection insurance will cover up to 75% of your pay
- Private Medical Insurance – through BUPA. Also Health Assessments, Dental Cover (optional) and Occupational Health

- Continuous professional development – twice yearly reviews are mandatory and used to guide targeted self-development and learning to help you develop to your potential
What is an Apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships are an excellent way of gaining qualifications and workplace experience. As an employee, you can earn as you learn, and you gain practical skills from the workplace.
How does the Grass Roots Apprenticeship Programme differ from other schemes?
Our bespoke Apprenticeship programme is not directly linked to the National Apprenticeship Scheme. We are offering a flexible way of gaining workplace experience within a well-established business along with the opportunity to study towards a business qualification (which will depend on the Apprentice role and area of work). However, further study is not compulsory and we are flexible according to the individual's needs.
What if I want to apply for more than one apprenticeship?
You will be considered as an applicant for all you apply for, but it would be helpful if you could let us know your order of preference.
What will happen if I make an application and change my mind?
You can withdraw your application at any time, although it you accept an Apprentice position and then resign, you'll need to be aware of your obligation regarding course fees.
When does the application form need to be submitted?
Your completed application form needs to be with us by Thursday 31st July 2014.
How much National Insurance and tax will I pay?
You'll pay NI and Income Tax at the usual rate for your salary. Please see http://www.hrmc.gov.uk/index.htm for current guidelines.
Where do I find out about further study and which courses will be right for me?
If your application is successful, we'll work with you to identify the most suitable courses for you and your role. You are welcome to research courses and share your ideas with us if you wish.
What will happen if I start working for Grass Roots and change my mind what will happen regarding course fees?
You will need to repay course fees if you decide to leave the Apprenticeship programme before completion, or leave Grass Roots within one year of your completion date.
